NCCAA National Tournament 2007, 2008, 2009

JBC Cancelled

Knoxville, TN- Today's games verse Johnson Bible College have been snowed out. CCU is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday in nearby Mason, OH as they take on Mount Vernon Nazarene and Spring Arbor Univeristy before they head down south on their spring break trip to Lakeland, FL.

Tigers Take Two from Golden Eagles

Barboursville, KY- CCU traveled to Barboursville, KY, the home of Union College, to take on another tough opponent out of the Mid-South Conference, Georgetown College. Once again the Golden Eagles came up short as their bats could not match that of their opponent. CCU lost game one by a score of 13-5 and game two 10-0. "The team did show an improvement from our opening series," stated Head Coach Mark Norton. "We did alot more positives this week, and I am sure playing teams like this early in the season will only help us down the stretch." The team has 6 freshmen in their starting lineup and Coach Norton hopes that this tough early action will pay off. Carson Dixon (0-1) took the loss in game one, and Tony Thornsburg (0-1) in game two. Freshman Ryan Chamberlain recieved his first career collegiate hit. The Golden Eagles next game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 2nd, as they travel to Knoxville, TN in a double header verse Johnson Bible College. Game time is set for 1pm.

Geneva Series Cancelled

Due to poor field conditions because of snow, Friday and Saturday's double headers against Geneva College have been cancelled. No make up date has been scheduled at this time. The Golden Eagles next game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 2nd, as they travel to Knoxville, TN in a double header verse Johnson Bible College. Game time is set for 1pm.

Golden Eagles fall in season opener

Williamsburg, KY- CCU opened their season traveling to Kentucky to play a very tough squad in the University of the Cumberlands. In their first time outside the Golden Eagles bats were dead as they failed to score a run losing game one 14-0 and game two 12-0. CCU's pitching had some bright spots but also seemed rusty as they walked numerous Cumberlands batters.  Jimmy Scott (0-1) took the loss in game one and Chad Hughes (0-1) the loss in game two. Freshmen Denny Rivera, Chad Hughes, Ethan Ball, and Tony Thornsburg all recorded their first collegiate hits. CCU will return to action on Friday when they are scheduled to play NCAA Division III Geneva College at Legacy Field, in Mason, OH.

2010 Season Outlook

Many questions will need to be answered for this years Golden Eagles Baseball Team. A team that set a school record with 21 wins last season has left this years squad with only two returning starters in senior outfielder Nick Westfall, and returning NCCAA Division II Mid East Region Player of the Year Josh Taylor due to a majority of the teams graduation. Other than Westfall and Taylor, you will see many new faces in CCU’s lineup. With only a roster of 12 this season, Coach Norton hopes injuries and fatigue will not play a factor in this hard upcoming season as the Golden Eagles enter their first season with the  NAIA and KIAC .

The infield will consist of Taylor anchoring the hot corner followed by an all freshmen infield. Freshman Denny Rivera, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, will assume duties at shortstop, while Tony Thornsburg, Independence, KY,  will see a majority of the time at second. Jimmy Scott, Woodlawn, KY, will also fight for time in the infield, being able to play most positions.  A platoon of players will fill in the other corner at first base.

The outfield will have the senior leadership of Nick Westfall. Also, fighting for the remaining spots are juniors Carl Wittrig and TJ Broughton. The other spots will be all filled by freshmen as Ryan Chamberlain, Erlanger, KY, Ethan Ball, Independence, KY, and Chad Hughes, Richwood, OH, will all see quality time.

The catching duties this year will be assigned to junior transfer Phil McClure, Chesterfield, VA. McClure will receive most of the duties with a day off when needed.

This years pitching staff has been highly upgraded since last year. Three lefties join the squad in freshmen Ball, Chamberlain, and Hughes. Josh Taylor is the lone returner on the hill. Freshmen Dixon, Thornsburg, and Scott will also see quality time in just their first year.
