Eagles Sign All-District Guard Katie Comello from Colerain High School

CINCINNATI, OH - Head coach Jamey Batten is pleased to announce the addition of Katie Comello to the CCU women's basketball program. Katie comes to CCU after a highly acclaimed prep career at Colerain High School where she played for head coach Christi Mack. Under the direction of Coach Mack, Comello helped lead Colerain to an impressive 18-5 record during her senior year. "Katie's competitiveness and passion for the game are what make her a great player," said Coach Mack. "She competes at a high level each and every day and has been a great vocal leader for our team."
Comello averaged 13.2 points per game in her senior season while also averageing 3.3 assists and 3.1 steals. She scored 20 or more points on four occasions including games against Princeton, Loveland, Fairfield, and Mount Healthy. For her success on the court she was honored as First Team All-GMC, First Team All-City, and Third Team All-Southwest Ohio District. For her strong academics she was also selected to the GMC All-Academic Team. She was also honored as the LaRosa's Player of the Week during her senior year. She joined the Colerain 1,000 point club during her senior season and finished our her prep career as the 3rd best scorer in school history while also ranking #2 in career assists. Katie also enjoyed AAU basketball success as a member of Kentucky Xtreme. She helped lead her team to a Sweet 16 finish at AAU Nationals over the summer.
Katie plans on majoring in Early Childhood Education at Cincinnati Christian University and plans on being an outstanding elementary school teacher. Comello chose to attend CCU over IUPUI, Miami University, and University of Louisville.
"Katie is an amazing young lady that knows how to take care of business on the court," said head coach Jamey Batten. "Her court awareness and highly competitive nature will really be a big addition to our team this year. Katie received looks from many Division I colleges and having her on our campus will be a blessing to our basketball family as well as our Elementary Education Department."
CCU kicks off their 2009-10 season in November in Atlanta, Georgia for the ACC Tipoff Classic. The Eagles went 18-11 last season and reached the Elite 8 of the NCCAA National Tournament for the first time in school history. The Eagles are a proud member of the NAIA and compete in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Eagles Sign Dixie Heights Standout and Midway College Transfer Carmen Firth

EDGEWOOD, KY - Head coach Jamey Batten is thrilled to announce the addition of Carmen Firth to the women's basketball program. Firth comes to CCU after playing two years at Midway College in Kentucky. As a freshman, firth played in all 31 games as Midway posted a 23-8 record and claimed the regular season conference title. As a sophomore she overcame an ankle injury and battled back to average 7.0 points per game.
At Dixie Heights High School, Firth led the Colonels to back to back 34th District Titles and qualified for the 9th Region tournament in both her junior and senior years.
"Carmen is a gifted ball handler who has a great mid range shot and exceptional court vision," said Coach Batten. "She is very competitive and has great court presence. Her basketball IQ is very high and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised to see her become a great coach someday. She does have a unique style and flair to her game that I think our fans and campus will really enjoy watching."

Golden Eagles Ink 6'0" Post Player Kelly Bolden from Colerain High School

CINCINNATI, OH - The CCU women's basketball program is happy to announce the addition of Kelly Bolden. Kelly is the daughter of Colerain High School athletic director Dan Bolden. Kelly played under head coach Christi Mack who led Colerain to an 18-5 finish this past season. She is one of four Colerain graduates whol will be playing basketball for CCU this upcoming season.
At 6'0" tall, Bolden will be a force in the middle for CCU and add depth to the post position. Bolden has been able to work with her head coach Christi Mack and Xavier men's head coach Chris Mack to develop a strong interior game.
"Kelly has great instincts and has a big upside," said coach Batten. "As she continues to develop as a player we expect her to move bodies for us in the lane. With her height and physical strength she will give us some much needed help in the middle as part of our post rotation."
Bolden chose CCU over Northwestern Ohio University and Asbury College. She will be majoring in Education as a student at CCU.

CCU Lands All-Conference Junior College Center from Clark State

CINCINNATI, OH - The CCU Golden Eagles and head coach Jamey Batten are pleased to announce the addition of Alexis Scott to the women's basketball team. Scott comes to CCU after a sensational junior college career at Clark State where she played for head coach Paul Brumfield. Scott was a two time Team MVP with career averages of 18.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.6 blocked shots per game. In 2008, she was honored as a First Team All-OCCAC Selection while finishing second overall in the Player of the Year voting.
Scott majored in Criminal Justice at Clark State and was a phenomenal student with a 3.4 grade point average. She was also selected to the Dean's List both years of attendance. Alexis happens to be a gifted vocalist and has been able to travel with several choirs and musical groups, including the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir in New York. Before attending Clark State, Scott was a standout prep player at Greeneview High School.
"We are thrilled to have a young lady like Alexis as the newest member of our basketball family," said head coach Jamey Batten. "At six foot tall she help fill a lot of our needs including size, interior scoring, and post defense. She is also a very talented shooter and ball handler for her size that will create matchup problems for opponents. As a junior, she will bring a wealth of experience and maturity that will be a blessing to our young team. Her personality and team first attitude will be a great addition to the student body and CCU will benefit from having a student athlete like Alexis on our campus."

Golden Eagles Sign Transfer Sharpshooter Makayla Graves from Defiance College

EDON, OH - Head coach Jamey Batten is please to announce the transfer of Makayla Graves to Cincinnati Christian University. Makayla will be joining her sister Nikki graves who plays volleyball at CCU. Makayla comes to CCU after a solid freshman year at NCAA Division III Defiance College where she shot 46% from three point range. She scored a season high 14 points against Franklin College in January of 2009.
Before attending Defiance, Graves was a two year letterwinner for coach Brock Bergman at Edon High School. As a senior, Graves was named First Team All-Conference in the Buckeye Border Conference while also earning 2nd Team All-District Honors. She was also named the MVP of both the Route 49 Classic and District All-Star Game.
At Edon High School, Makayla also had a stellar academic record as she graduated as the Salutatorian of her senior class. Graves was also a member of the National Honors Society.
"Makayla is an excellent student and a well rounded young person that will be a blessing to the team this season," said head coach Jamey Batten. "She has great basketball fundamentals and is a gifted three point specialist that will really stretch our opponents defensively. She is another key addition that will help strengthen and solidify our perimiter shooting this upcoming season."
Graves joins an up and coming CCU team that went 18-11 last season on their way to their first ever NCCAA National Tournament appearance. The Eagles made it to the Elite 8 and won two games to claim 6th place in the nation. Their .621 winning percentage was the best in program history.
